Stairway to Heaven

If I had to describe the perfect place to go to if you wanted to satisfy your sweet tooth it would be spoonful of sugar. Tucked into the lane parallel to CMH road with just a small sign indicating its presence, spoonful is by miles my favorite pastry shop in the city.

The banoffee pie, the strawberry and walnut meringue (a favorite), the Mississippi mud pie, the oreo cake slice, the lemon tarts and the brownies and the other little bits and bobs they kept making will always bring a smile to your face.

The bad - it's sad to say but sometimes you don't want your favorite places getting too popular, taxes used to be lower here (4.5% compared to 14.5% + 4.5% elsewhere) so that even if their base prices were high the taxes eventually made the prices competitive, but they have now climbed into the upper bracket.

Also for some reason they have reduced the size of their helpings - the Mississippi Mud Pie used to be this huge slice of chocolaty goodness, but now it is this little circular tartish looking thing with no outer crust (Why? SOS Why?)

The owner and her family run the place and they are extremely nice and friendly. Chef Yuvna's blog which is printed and kept on every table is a great read!

It is a very personal place and you should try it.

Music -5 because there is none (or it is very low and I haven't noticed it) - which is perfect :p

Expensive But Better Than Average

I have tried a few offerings from here. The pastries are very nice and certainly better than what you will find around most of Bangalore. However, they do let themselves down a little....
It is almost impossible to get personal service from the chef or any one else, even if you are ordering several cakes - in my case birthday cakes. Party cakes are perhaps not their strength - they seem reasonably well made and simply presented. There are no special cake decorations possible and any discussion of the requesting any special type of cake is not entertained.
The pastries are fairly good though, although, as mentioned by several reviewers certainly on the expensive side.

Great Taste but too Costly

The most delicious apple pie I have had was at SOS. Even their savouries taste brilliant. Lasagna, sandwiches, cupcakes, tarts, anything that I have ordered so far hasn't disappointed me one bit.Loosen your wallets after having all these

Pricey but nearly worth it

My girl won't agree to that, though. Small place, expensive, but rather good dessert. Try the mini cupcakes. They are a little easier on the wallet.

Dessert Anyone??

A totally blissful place for desserts.! I’m especially highlighting the desserts here!! There are other offerings like sandwiches, pastas etc. but nothing beats the pies, tarts, pastries and cheese cakes here! My personal favorites are Blue Berry Cheese Cake, Mississippi Mud Pie, Raspberry Cheese Pie and Dutch Truffle! Awesome m/! Writing about it makes my mouth water! Yum Yum!

The pastries just melts in your mouth and you can’t resist from gobbling up the whole thing. Make sure you ask at the counter to warm up the pastry if appears to be too frozen.

Good product but,,,,,,,,,,,,

They have good to excellent product, but the place suffers from two problems: price and attitude. It is, as noted by others, too pricey, as you can get similar and sometimes better for much less. I had a bit of a shock when I ordered a luxury cake based on their menu on Burrp, and when I went to pick it up I was astonished to be charged 1500 per kg. The menu said 850, and I could have lived with a bit of inflation or that the menu is a bit outdated, but 1500 is way, way too much. I haven't seen that price anywhere else. The other thing is the prop's attitude. There is absolutely no friendliness toward the customer, and one would think she was doing the customer a huge favour. I stood there for 10 minutes for my cake, and she didn't once look at me or say "I'll be with you in a minute" or "May I help you?", especially as she wasn't particularly doing anything but looking over the clerk's shoulder. The place could be a really good go-to for cakes and pastries if they lowered the price to match the competition, and if it were more customer-oriented. A friendly smile and a word or two if you have to make the customer wait goes a long way. That could even mitigate, to some extent, the prices. Few people are willing to take high prices AND an attitude. My cake(Bailey's and raspberry) was excellent, but they've lost a potentially big-spending customer in me and in anyone I tell about them. I'll have to hear lots of good things to go back there again.

expensive! ordinary place with 5 start pricing!

I have been desperately wanting to try coz people have been yapping abt this place!
5 star pricing Bt the shop looks like a shack.. A piece of cake cost around 200 inr
N above which is fu**g expensive! I would never come back to this place ..I have tried most of the cakes nothing special abt the taste.. I dnt understand y would a piece of cake cost so much when u can get the same cake for a lesser price rght across the street..I think burrp certified their place fr their exuberant price nt fr the cake or the place!! I think they bought burrp certificate by paying money n all the good reviews posted in burrp by the owner itself.. If u value money dnt visit this place !! Nt worth the money!!!

Heavily over priced!!

I was shocked by the pricing here! Think twice before you order a cup of tea, this place has 5 star pricing, without the comforts. 2 teas cost Rs 172.00 One measly portion of humus cost Rs 200..

Exorbitantly expensive and not worth it!

One evening, we just thought of eating at this place while passing by, assuming it to be a bakery-cum-cafe.
It is a VERY VERY expensive bakery, and an expensive cafe! Their bakery items, be it a muffin or a slice of cake, start from Rs.100 and go up to Rs 300! We tried the chocolate cake which was for Rs.150 and frankly I have had much much better cakes and at lower prices! Even Taj's patisserie is better and less expensive than them! We wanted to eat some more but their sandwiches started from Rs300 and we did not dare try one after the cake experience.

yummy but overpriced,indifferent service

Have been going to this place continuously for a long time and it is hands down, one of the most awesome dessert places in Bangalore.Must tries there would be: Chocolate cheesecake brownie, lemon tart, raspberry baileys, red velvet cupcake, actually anything sweet is pretty awesome. When i was in the "Spoonful of sugar" craze i would come here every three days. However lately the prices seem a little too steep...even for the tiny cupcakes.
Located in the most pet friendly part of bangalore, this cozy place is dog friendly too.

However i find the owner's behaviour very cold whenever she serves me.Also, she offered the customer before me an option of having sliced bananas on the banoffee pie,an option that i had never been made aware of on previous visits. So shall i call it selective snobbery?Doesn't change the fact that the cakes are good, but does not warrant frequent trips anymore.

Expensive but Worth a Try

This is a small place in a nice lane of indiranagar. it will be a little difficult to find if u don't keep a watch for the sign board. even the sign board in white can easily be missed :) .

This place has some "awesome" chocolate pies ,pastries . Loved it.
Creamy Oreo Cheese Cake and the Chocolate Mud Pie are the best .it will melt in your mouth.
All the pastries are freshly made but has huge calorific values .be warned.

Pizzas & sandwiches are OK type. too expensive.
i will suggest just go to the counter order the pastries which looks good & try it.

My Awesome Birthday Cake

This is my second review for SOS on burrp. And true to their acronym, after eating their cake you'll make a small trip to heaven and back. For my birthday this time my husband ordered the Raspberry and Irish Cream Gateaux, which wins the race of all cakes in the running by probably a continent. 2.5 kilos of this vanished in exactly 5 minutes after I cut it. I say no birthday is perfect without the perfect cake and what do you know. A year ago because SOS couldn't get Baileys Irish Cream (and she uses only that for the cake) she wasn't taking any orders for this cake, so I was really thrilled to get this one for my birthday this time around.
It's a pity that they don't do novelty cakes though, because for my daughter's birthday last year I went to Bliss Cakes and I really felt like I was cheating on SOS for doing that. Well, that Pooh bear cake was a disaster with both the looks and taste. Pooh bear looked like some distorted creature, not from this planet. Taught me a lesson to cheat on my fav cake place.
So SOS it is always for cakes. If you haven't tried them yet, you should.

Paying for more than a spoonful !!!

It was burrp that dragged us to this place and mind you it was some distance that we had to travel....

The place was hard to locate since we were not very familiar with the area but eventually did manage to get there in one piece. Now we had skipped dessert at the previous place to come to this place so the expectations were pretty high !!!

One of my friends ordered a cheesecake, the other a chocolate pastry (I forget the name). I went for the 'famous' mud pie.

The mud pie was good but wasn't gooey enough for my liking, the pricing a little too steep. The friend also said she had tasted better cheesecake whilst we found a hair in the pastry.

The guy behind the counter was extremely curteous and replaced it, albeit with an oreo pie since they seemed to have run out off pastries. This at 3 PM was a little strange.

The total tab was on the other side of 500 and was definitely steep. Now, on the basis of past burrp reviews, I had raved about this place to my friends a lot before going in but would probably say it didn't live up to my expectations.

A spoonful of sugar probably wasnt sweet enough for my liking :)

Spoonful of Attitude!

This place sure has some delectable looking pastries, and they taste quite nice too. But I don’t think they are exceptional, especially not worth the price.
They also dish out quiches, tarts and a few more savory bites too. We didn’t really have the time to eat, so we asked for a few pastries and a vegetable lasagna to be packed.
The service is poor, they take way too long to parcel your food and even longer to give you the bill. My mom is strictly vegetarian and so I asked a few questions about the lasagna, to my surprise and the owner kept rolling her eyes and making faces. Not enough that their portion sizes are small and the food overpriced (Rs.220 for a super small size portion of the lasagna). The management has no regard for their customers and need to take a class in customer orientation.
Go there for meager portions, average tasting but pricey cakes and more than a spoonful of attitude!

Sinning with chocolate :)

Oh God, why is that everything that I like either immoral, illegal or fattening...

Spoonful of Sugar whole heartedly contributes to the last piece of the above lament of mine.

Never before have I had pastries so rich and so well made. A usual ritual of four of us frequent 'Spooners' is to simply close our eyes and roll the pieces of pastries around in our mouths. Pure, divine heaven!!!

Our regular orders are always the Creamy Oreo Cheese Cake and the Chocolate Mud Pie (remember to ask for a topping of cream when ordering for this one!). And they're simply soooo sinfully rich with the cream. Unfortunately, we never end up trying anything else there yet and each time we go there, we keep telling ourselves we'll try something different only to find the same familiar pastries in front of us and the same familiar feeling of delight inside us. Everytime.

Cost wise, it is slightly on the higher side. A good pastry party for four easily costs us about Rs 600/-.

The place is tucked inside a pocket road by the Sri Krishna Temple road (the road parallel to CMH behind the Coffee Day Lounge), the landmark being the nearby Nilgiris supermarket. Parking should not be too much of a problem as there is a mesh of roads all around.

It's a self service joint, and the guys there are very friendly and nice, though I've never seen the proprietor smile - maybe she's just too busy thinking of the refilling the fast moving cakes :) . There's a noticeboard which have clippings of reviews from foreigners, local folks and reviews which came in various newspapers.

Ambiance wise, we four like the table right outside the entrance door. Unfortunately, there's not too much place to sit outside, so you might get the feeling of being a little cramped, especially if you come in a group of maybe six.

Overall, the best pastries I've had in Indiranagar!!!

The best desert place in Bangalore!!!!

Tucked away in a small lane in Indiranagar, this place is definitely the best desert place in Bangalore. Every desert that we have tasted so far has been brilliant - not very easy to achieve! The Oreo pie is the absolute best in town......the only other place that comes even close for Oreo pie is Spiga. The blueberry cheesecake, the chocolate strawberry gateux, the strawberry merengue, the mascarpone pie.....every one of them is just amazing! Be warned - the prices are not cheap because the ingredients are top-notch. But definitely worth every rupee you pay for them. No gelatine-loaded muck masquerading as desert here! If you have good taste in deserts.....this place is as close to heaven as you will ever get!

I had been here all the way from ORR[sarjapur] to place an order for a B'day cake. Its located a bit away from the traffic and main rds, so might be lil difficlut to locate it at 1st tym. I had ordered a ferrero rocher cake for my partners B'day. and i must say the cake was just super duper yummmyy.. I had also tried some of their tarts which was good, a Chocolate pie which was superb and a fudge brownie was excellent . Will get back soon to try their lasagne's and other cakes and also to get my fav fudge brownie & a chocolate pie . The guy at the counter was very friendly.
I will definitely be visiting this place again and again and recommending it to all my friends.

It was always a pleasure to order from Spoonful Of Sugar until I had to order a birthday cake. I discussed with the proprietor and she did help me in choosing a birthday cake for my wife. The cake was ordered along with five portions of Baileys and Raspberry Gateau.

To my disappointment, the cake was made without my wife’s name mentioned on it. Though her manager confirmed that the name was noted along with the order the proprietor told me that she wouldn’t be able to do much about it (?!)..(made me feel like I was begging for food at Spoonful Of Sugar). On insisting, she agreed to include my wife’s name.

..Perhaps she didn’t want to spend any additional time on this cake, the cake looked like it was ordered off the shelf and something scribbled on it in a haste just to customize it as a birthday cake!

I would have at least expected the proprietor to be apologetic about it, arrogance may be...!

And I was told that the Baileys and Raspberry Gateau would taste a bit strong as the entire sponge of the cake would be soaked in baileys…somehow we didn’t get any flavor of the baileys..

We may find it difficult to go back or recommend this place to anyone going forward.

Expensive ...

This was a place I had been wanting to try for its desserts and finally visited it over this weekend. The place was smaller than we expected, but quite clean and comfortable. We had the chicken tarts, a chicken quiche and dutch truffle cake. The only thing that matched our expectation was the tarts , the cake was nice, but not the best I have add, the quiche was under salted and did not taste good at all. For the prices they are charging you expect more better food than just saying it was average. I agree with the below comments that the prices are way too high for quantity and quality they are serving.

sad pasta at a ridiculous price

i must agree with the review below. this place is an absolute rip off. have heard about the deserts but when i did get to the place ended up having their chicken pasta. the cream sauce was pretty mediocre, a load of fresh cream and some pieces of grilled chicken does not make the best cream sauce specially at a price of 222 plus tax. hello this place is like a small take away counter..really don't know what they think of themselves. the salad was pretty sad too with the tomatoes tasting not soo right. disappointing meal..

still great food, but hiked prices

I was quite the regular to this tucked-away joint. And though the pastries were exorbitantly expensive (comparatively) the more exotic ones are really worth it (raspberry mascarpone, Irish cream gateaux, etc).

After a brief hiatus, I went there recently, taking my friends along, and ordered a pasta and lasagne, I was quite shocked. The eats do not have the prices explicitly mentioned and naturally one would assume that prices would be more or less the same (from when I had eaten last).

however, both the lasagne and the pasta were EACH at Rs 266 + Tax (another Rs. 33)! This is typically what expensive restaurants charge including the cost of rent, staff, service, expensive decor, etc, etc... but for a little cafe to do so just doesnt add up, apart from the fact that it simultaneously excludes a lot of people from its regular clientele. Admittedly, there will be enough number of people who will lap up what they make (considering that they do not mass produce and are situated in affluent Indiranagar). So, I cannot say that it is bad business sense.

But in the end, I just feel bad for me. :(

Note: The 3 stars are for the hiked prices though, food was great - as usual.

Saved my day ,,, made me a hero

I have been to this place twice with my friend.I saw picture of some of
their cakes in some food mazagine.Thought why not give it a try.
I am a new addict to GPS system and some time stupidly follow the path
it indicates. I did this mistake and google map took me and my friend to
a location which was a quite colony. I kept looking up and down but couldnt
find. Good sense prevailed and we called them. We came back till Sapna
Book House and then Nilgiris. Somehow found it.
All the while was praying, it better be good, else i am dead. I was nervous
as if it was my restraunt and experts were coming to visit.
Part of it is true because my friend is an expert when it comes to cakes
and pastries.
We ordered mud pie choco cake , bluberry chese cake , some nonveg tarts.
They were amazing.Loved it. My prayers were heard and i was a hero.
My friend asked me if we can go some time again. I thought why not.
Second time we had apple pie and tuscan chicken sandwich and .... blue berry
cheese cake ... thats my favourite!
Read some coments on burrp after being there. The only complain was regarding
price. Hey you loose all your senses after having those cakes. Compare
the taste and quality ,,, its a steal. Enjoy

Good but too expensive...CANNOT visit again!

I have been to this place once and the desserts are genuinely very tempting and delicious. Must try is their mud pie

But the food is exorbitantly expensive...one slice of mud pie is over 100 bucks and the 35 bucks cakes mentioned are like tiny slices...even if i wanted to I could not visit this place very often. Another important thing are the cakes...each cake...though in very unusual and tempting flavors are about three times the price.

I really think you guys are doing a very specialty and select customer based job...but the prices are such that I think you have alienated a large chunk of customers.

I guess all the positive reviews that this place has received leaves me with very little to say. But still I guess the best place for desserts in Bangalore deserves some word from everyone who's been to it. I have been here twice, and have loved the food. Answer to my prayers

Spoonful of sugar is the answer to my prayers. I have always regretted the fact that Bangalore lacked an exclusive and exotic desserts place and so was thrilled when my mom and I discovered Spoonful of Sugar a year ago. That it is just a 5 minute walk from my home makes it even more appealing.
The sandwiches there are absolutely amazing and I go there at least once a month to order a Herbed Chilli Cheese sandwich (my favorite). The non veg lasagne is also wonderful - original, fantastically flavoured and very tasty. I am also a fan of the eclairs, their tartlets and the wonderul array of cakes (sadly I have forgotten their exotic names; happily, not their taste). I am now looking forward to trying more of their delicious sounding food items.
The ambience is ok. Maybe a few foreign magazines on the tables would make it more interesting to people like me who wait for food to be packed.
The crowd is upmarket and good.
The price is on the high side but their items are worth every paisa.
I shall soon go back - for more lasagne, more sandwiches and more tartlets.

Too costly :(

I am living closeby the shop. And I usually pass by that street to reach my house. On a day, out of curiosity, i went inside to check out the menu just to try different. You would not believe it. It is damn costly !!!!! . So just walked out quietly. Because it is definitely not a place for anyone with undisposable source of income.

Just wanna to ask you. Come on, are you mixing gold in everything ? Or pricing high would overrate the food ?

As a bottom line, I would suggest to reconsider you pricing. Allow the people to savour you menu. Then you will get more positive feedbacks.

Best patisserie in town

I do not have a sweet tooth and I rarely crave for desserts. But, Spoonful of Sugar in Indiranagar made me reconsider desserts. Over the numerous visits to Spoonful in the last two months, I have tried most of the cakes and savories there. My all time favorite is the Strawberry Meringue. The cheesecakes are nice and the gateaus are memorable. The mini tarts are amazing.

But that said, I am gluttonous and I wish for more and better. I wish the eclairs were available more often and the pesto had a tad bit less oil. The lasagna is good, but can be better. And the Tiramasu needs a lot of work.

For someone who absolutely LOVES tiramasu, I hated your tiramisu and couldn't even finish it :( I wish there was no banana flavor in the tiramisu! And, I totally missed the mascarpone and coffee flavors in the tiramisu. Can you please improvise your version of the Tiramasu?

But, so far, Spoonful is the best patisserie joint in town. Thanks for all the effort and the yummy delicacies.

Hi Fourier,
Thank you for the positive feedback.

I can assure you we do not put ANY banana flavor in the Tiramisu! And we make it with Expresso made from the finest coffee beans made from our machine ) and the same Mascarpone cheese that The Leela Palace Hotel uses.
Do try it once more and give us your feedback.
As for the Eclairs, as a rule we bring them out only once a week , but will take your suggestion into consideration and maybe increase it to twice.Do leave your number in our request book the next time around and we will call you when we have them stocked.

The best Dessert in Bangalore!

Went to SOS for lunch on a Saturday after reading some reviews on burrp...was not disappointed!
We should have followed their advice and eaten the dessert first- the Mississipi Mud Pie was among the best i've had and the Chocolate Mousse was fantastic as well. Next on the agenda is to try the Raspberry Gateaux.
The chicken penne was really well made..simple and tasteful flavours. The Herbed Chilli sandwich was fairly good as well. Only wish the side of wafers was a little more generous.
Even if not for the food, will definitely go back for the dessert..again and again and again.

It was lunch time when I passed by Spoonful of Sugar so I decided to check out their savouries. The first thing which struck me was their absurd pricing. The sandwiches were priced at 125 bucks and the single portion pasta was 175! What did these guys think of themselves, fine dine prices for this small counter hidden between the mandis of indiranagar. Anyways I decided to try the chicken sandwich since I was already quite hungry. The sandwich took forever to arrive so I started reading the flattering reviews from burrp which were flaunted on their message board, atleast this is gonna be worth the bucks I thought. The sandwich which finally arrived really managed to piss me off big time. I couldn’t believe that the sandwich with some strands of chicken was actually loaded with some rancid sauce, real yuck stuff. Felt big time cheated and I decided that I too need to give my point of view on burrp , so that they can put my feedback as well on their message board! I actually had to open an account for the same! Was reading all the other reviews written about spoonful of sugar and have understood one thing for sure, it is owners and owners’ friends who do most of the reviews on their restaurants in sites like burrp ! So I think people like me too need to write reviews once in a way so that people get the complete picture.

Visited this place for the first time two days ago and i just cannot stop talking about it! Took a few of their delicious desserts to work and everyone i shared it with said they would go and try out everything on offer. This place gets a double, triple thumbs up from me (and my colleagues)!!! It definitely warrants several re-visits! Oh, and i forgot to mention, the prices are very reasonable and worth every rupee! Go, people, GO GO GO!!!

More than just a Spoonful of Sugar

Being a regular on burrp.com, Spoonful of Sugar has been in the limelight for quite a while now what with raving reviews about the place. So i decided to barge in on a lazy Sunday when I happened to be around in the vicinity and to my dismay it turned out they were closed and at a time when my sweet tooth was craving for some sinful desserts..

Nevertheless, the next time when I did drop in with my friend, we felt we were in paradise..I probably dont even remember most of the names of the pastries/ cakes etc.. but all had one common factor- they looked delicious!

One item worth mention has to be the Walnut Meringue and I must say that it is probably one of the best we've eaten and the crusty exterior was delicious.. We also ordered a veg pasta and I must admit that though it was a very simple pasta dish we could taste the ingredients and were left with a lingering taste..

Prices may seem steep initially but once u dig in.. you realize it is worth every penny that you are paying for it! All in all a perfect quaint place for a complete meal and a great experience :)

Nothing comes close

I had tried most of the dessert places that are considered good in Bangalore, Then a friend told me about Spoonful of Sugar. Their pastries are the best I've had in a long long time. My cousin, visiting from the US, also thought they were superb. I would recommend this place to anyone without any hesitation.

Oh my! The Golden Ticket

I felt like Charlie in Wonka's Chocolate factory. To have the storefront done up in that whimsical, magical theme would make the experience a delight!

The Best Cakes Ever

All our birthday cake orders for family are from Spoonful of Sugar. Sangeetha is just excellent with everything. While our favourite is the Fruit Gateaux, during the mango season the Mango Gateaux is a must try. Recently I went to the cafe and had this amazing Raspberry and Baileys Cream Gateaux. Have never tasted anything so heavenly. Also, the Apple Pie and the sandwiches are just great.

Every Spoonful of BLISS!!!!

Something about this quaint little joint - the pastries here are pure BLISS!!
I dream about them at work (even now) - what sets this place apart is that they aren't too sweet which makes them light and yet very flavorful!
They have an array of delicious pastries (both sweet and salty varieties) and I had recently ordered a cake from here - the chocolate truffle, which was just perfect!!!
I cant wait to be back!!! i'm craving for more!

Deserts to kill for

Gluttony is one of the 7 sins but there's no sin in pigging out at S.O.S. I happened to cross this pastry shop when all other ice cream parlors were shut (for some reason) and wondered why I hadn't heard of it before.

I had the oreo cheese cake and the chocolate eclair and my wife had everything on display, and yet, we were left begging for more. A hot Cappuccino to wash it all down and we were on our way.

Great place to order cakes for occasions and very competitively priced.

Keep up the great work guys...Youll being seeing a lot of me

Best Baked Goods in Bangalore

I was introduced to Spoonful of Sugar when a friend gave me a gift box of mini apple pies. They were heavenly. After devouring them, I had to check out the bakery myself. It is also a small cafe and does takeaway. Since I'm hooked, I've started giving out gifts of baked goods myself. I even had Spoonful of Sugar prepare an assortment of goodies for a party I had. Everything I have had is just amazing. The quality of ingredients and freshness of their baked goods is awesome. They offer a wide variety of veg and non veg savory mini sized tarts, quiches, and lasagnas, fresh home made dips and sauces, all different types of cakes, fruit and chocolate tarts, mouth-watering gooey brownies, sweet dessert breads, etc. All of my guests were raving about how delicious the food was! I recommend stopping by the shop and checking out all the options- you won't be able to leave without trying something and I'm sure you'll also be going back again and again.
