Mathias Durand is a singer-songwriter born in France in 1983. As a child, he learnt classical piano from his grandmother, then started to play the guitar.
From 2006 to 2010, he studied in the class of acousmatic composition of Re%u0301gis Renouard- Larivie%u0300re in conservatoire Erik Satie, Paris 7e.
He released his debut album Broken Letters in 2008 and played with the quartet Math and the Letters.
In the summer of 2009, he traveled to Calcutta and started his training in Hindustani classical music with Pandit Santanu Bandyopadhyay. The next summer, they toured through France and recorded an album as a duet (Mood). Today he also learns sitar from Sri Shubo Chakraborty.
He has been singing and playing guitar in Alacazas Jasey since 2001 and in the experimental septet IT since 2006 and is a guitarist and pianist with the John Mitchell Fleet (Head on, 2013) and Joseph Leon (The Bare Awakening, 2012).
With Niktus, he founded the collective Satourne and organized an itinerant festival in the summers 2013 and 2014 in France.
He joined Tritha Electric in 2012 and since then they have toured in Europe, India and Africa.
He is now preparing a solo album, L'Arbre, to come in fall of 2016, as well as one album with Tritha Electric and one with Santanu Bandyopadhyay.
