Gaam Chaalo!
One of my all time favorites. Reach there by 7 pm. Wander around, drink their smoky chaas or jal jira. Look at the mehndi artiste, garba etc. And then sit down for a Meal that never ends, as also does not allow you to get up till you are stuffed with, variety of vegetables, roti(phulka); bajra roti; khichdi farsan & finally sweet to top it up.
The consistency has not changed in the last 20 years that I have been visiting & taking people there.

Best Gujarati Thali
A very good place for the people interested in having village experience.they have variations in the menu everyday.They serve Gujarati snacks and the main course.
We were welcomed with flowers and a friendly smile by one of the staff members.
Puppet show,Folk dance, live classical music, magic show, nimbu pani and the hospitable staff are the main attractions here...
We tucked into handwa, kadi, aloo sabji, jalebi, halwa, dhokla, chole, thepla, bajri ka rotla, makai ka rotla, bhakri,ghee khichdi, chhash etc..After visiting this place i realized that i am capable of eating two times the apetite that i have.

Full to paisa vasool . .
Its sort of difficult for a Gujarati to find the difference between what they make at Vishalla and what is cooked at home day in day out.
Trust me, its not about what is being served , what matters is, how it is served.
You feel as if you are visiting your long lost native place somewhere in the rural parts of Gujarat. They have put in their level best to set up a village atmosphere which takes you away from the concrete jungle for a couple of hours.
The diyas and the lanterns are just so apt for the place.
While you wait for your turn to have the food you have a lot of things you could do. You can explore the handicraft museum or just relax on the cots and enjoy the live folk music and dance. Kids would not bother their parents since they would be enjoying the puppet show.
About the food, you gotta be fasting for a couple of days if you really want to eat all they would start serving you one by one. Its a unique experience in its own to have food in the huts sitting on 'patlas' with those traditional 'dhichanias' to make us feel comfortable despite of not sitting on our regular dining table. The food is served in 'patralas' made up of leafs. Moreover you are given a spoon only on demand otherwise you are expected to eat the food with bare hands leaving aside all hygiene notions.
The USP of the food is the 'makhan' - white butter and desi 'gol' - jaggery. Everything that starts flowing in is just so lip smacking. Those people who come to serve the food will make sure that you eat much more than you are capable of by doing the traditional 'Kathiavadi taan' .
They will great you with garlands and flowers if they come to know that its a special occasion like a birthday or an anniversary you are there to celebrate.
Over all it would be an enchanting experience.

awesome experience and great food
Vishalla is an awesome experience of fine and authentic gujarati cuisine in a village setting.
The main highlight is spending an evening there. Reach there once it is dark and you will find yourself entering into a lane beautifully lit up with oil lamps. The hosts will welcome you with flowers. At the entrance there is the counter where you pay for the dinner (it is a fixed per person rate) and they will give you a time when you will be seated for dinner.
Till then you have various options to spend time on. As you walk inside, the entire place is lit up with oil lanterns giving a soothing atmosphere. In the main space a group of traditional singers and dancers performing and they will be delighted if you join in. In one corner there is a puppet show going on for kids. There is a excellent utensil museum where one can see the utensils used during olden days. There is a small shop with different gujarati handicrafts. And still if you dont want to do anything just relax on the traditional cots or the swings.
As soon as it is it dinner time, a waiter will come looking for you...and trust me they find you! You will be lead to the dining area which is divided into small open huts. They cluster up from around 2 to 15 people. You will be served on the leaf plates and bowls. And slowly the waiters will start coming in and serve the food.
And now the most important part...the food. Rather than going into too much detail of the entire menu, i would recommend what i really like. The best is the aloo subji, the rotla, kadhi, kichadi and the white butter. In the dining area you will see one hut where they prepare fresh roti or rotls or bhakharis.
Apart from dinner one can go there for evening snacks as well. They also organize lunch parties for a bigger group. i can write an essay on my experiences at vishalla but it is some place one should try in ahmedabad.

Vishalla is a Beautiful Experience!!
Vishalla is and extraordinary place! ithe first thing that strikes u when you get there is the folk music that flows in the air!! If you want to spend time with your family & enjoy this is the place to be! Its based on the village theme!
One gets to enjoy folk music n dance, puppet shows, buy local handicrafts along with relishing the food.
Its one of the best Thali experiences in the city!!
