Good South Indian delicacies.

Best South Indian food happens here.We ordered everything which was recommended by the waiter & it was a good idea! Panniyaram and
Spicy pepper dosa & Mysore sada dosa - Crispy & delicious! Everything was perfect here. The Filter coffee's -this should be a Must order for all.his place tends to be very crowded on the weekends, so expect to wait once you get there. The sambar and all the chutneys they serve along are simply lip smacking.

Jinx place for us

We reached there on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Earlier we could never find this place. A person of the restaurant was taking reservations. Because he stated that we had to wait for 15 - 20 minutes, we agreed, but what we didn't know was that the wait would be endless.
That person kept calling people randomly with his own discretion. I don't know what grudge he had with us.
Lesson learned! Never wait in queue for food rather make a reservation. If there is no table available then go to some other place. It is disgusting to wait till your name to be called for.

Close enough

I've spent my younger years in the south and still have that love for good south indian food in me. I've always liked trying out south indian restaurants in the hunt for that true, authentic sambhar, but sadly, even in this big metro like Mumbai, its almost impossible to find. Finally, one day, my sister took me to Dakshinayan and it really impressed me. To start off, this place is very popular and thats evident by the waiting times to get a table. There is a big queue for both, lunch and dinner and it could take up to a couple of hours at times, so get there early. The restaurant itself is pretty basic and relaxed, which is good because I can't imagine enjoying south indian food in a classy, upmarket place. The menu is pretty extensive and has almost anything you could ask for - anything but a thali, which is quite a shame really. The service is pretty quick - no problems there. Now on to the food - how was the sambhar? Did it live up to the ones in the South? Well, unfortunately no (my search still continues), but it was pretty nice. The rasam was excellent and so was the tomato rice and curd rice. They have gun powder too, which makes your food just that extra bit tastier. Overall, it was a wonderful meal and I've been there a few times since. Definitely recommended for south indian food lovers :)

“Excellent South Indian Food”

Excellent South Indian Cuisine. All the dishes on the Menu are very well made.Basic Sambar & chutney are very tasty.Idlis are very soft & fresh.Dosas are tasty and made very well.Dahi Vada cannot be missed.Well done! More branches need to open in Mumbai between Bandra & Andheri. Only problem is the waiting which is even full at 10:30 pm.

Superb Stew

We went here with my in-laws and my 2 n half year old daughter. When we reached the place it was quite close to their closing time. But the staff was good and accommodating. Our daughter was quite hungry and they seated us on a nice and big table. Besides the usual Idlis, dosas and Utappams, we ordered their Apam n stew. The vegetable stew was quite out of this world. We ordered a few more apams just so that we could finish the stew. Even on its own the stew made a really nice kind of soup. Lastly we ordered the filter coffee. As expected the filter coffee was top notch and strong unlike some places where they put extra water and dilute the taste of coffee. The only issue with this place is that it takes CASH only. These days when even Udipis take Credit Cards its quite surprising to know understand why not here. However, they have put up apt signs informing you same before you enter or are seated so that you are aware. Definitely a good breakfast place close to Hare Rama Hare Krishna Temple.

Old school style south-indian place

Dakshinayan is located in the one of the bylanes of Juhu just bang opposite the Iskcon temple. It's on the ground floor of Hotel Anand. The place was packed on Sunday afternoon. We were given a table after a 20 minute wait. The menu was filled with mouth watering. Since we were a large group, we sample quite some variety. For appetizers we ordered some Rasam soup and one order each of tamarind and lemon vermicelli. We were off to a great start. The Rasam was a spicy but very tasty. For the main course I ordered a spring onion dosa made out of moong-dal. The others on the table ordered Appams with Veg stew, Coconut rice and a sada dosai. Overall the food was tasty and reminded me of the stuff I had during my Kerala visit. The only negative was that the guy taking our order was in some kind of rush was distracted by what was happening on other tables. The handmade ice-creams very delicious and are highly recommended. We also had the filter coffee, which was one of the best I've had in a while. Highly recommended for family lunches.

Matunga brought to Juhu

An excellent place for South Indian food particularly for the Andheri, Vile Parle, Juhu belt so to speak. Much better than Banana Leaf in terms of food quality. It is advisable to try out breakfast on Sunday morning. Start with idli and vadai couple of different kinds, all good accompanied by sambhar in plentiful along with three different kinds of chutneys. Follow this up with rava masala dosa and you don't need lunch at all. If breakfast is not your scene, then lunch it is, where you can add uttapam and different types of rice curd also. You can try the sweet or sour sahi vadai and top it up with their hand made ice creams. All in all a superb place to spend a Sunday and come back satiated.
