Fort Area in Mumbai has a lot of good restaurants that go unnoticed due to them maintaining a low profile in general. Deluxe is one such place & a perfect embodiment of the proverb "Don't judge a book by its cover". We would not have stumbled upon this place, had we not lost our way around here :D ! What a way to get lost !
The place from outside looks shady and dingy. Making our way to the top floor, we find the AC seating area with pretty ok & minimalist decor. Best time to visit would be around 12:30-1:00 pm, to avoid waiting for a table.
One of Deluxe's highlight is the traditional ceremonial feast (called Sadya) laid out on a banana leaf [This is the one thing that is missing at Fountain Plaza]. It comes with the usual accompaniments of Avial, Stew, Vegetable preparation (called Thoran), Chutneys, Sambar, Rasam, Curd, Papad and Pickle.
Non-veg items are also pretty good, especially the Fish Fry. Most of the Chicken or Beef dishes are pretty good too and on the spicier side, staying true to the cuisine. Those with bland palates or no clue regarding Kerala cuisine might not like it though.
Warning :- 1 ) This place serves food from Kerala, which though geographically is in South India has a cuisine very different from that of its neighbours. Specially for the vegetarians, this isn't your regular Dosa, Idly, Upma joint and the Veg Meals served here is unlike any other, both items-wise and preparation-wise.
2) Kerala cuisine is high on non-veg and eating items like Beef is very common, even among Hindus. So people who have a problem with that can very well stay away.
Verdict: A great VFM place serving excellent Kerala food. Highly recommended.
