Perfect place for Italian serves

One of my Favorite place to eat Italian food. this place is always jam packed with students, professionals flooding in every hour.Nachos, cheese pizza, enchiladas, tacos everything is just perfect with no as such complain in any regards. Three cheese baled pasta and the american cheese ball are a must try at this place.Oriental chilli paneer sizzler & sizzling chocolate brownie both will tickle your palate. i can still feel those flavors. The penne alfred were bit bland and salty. please avoid the same. they are very generous with cheese toppings. This place is easy on wallet and service is quite prompt.

Good Mexican Cusines.

Its an american style restaurant witha n Indian feel to it. This place gives you good sea view of chowpatty while enjoying your meal. their popular bombay tandoori pizza full of flavors served with soft tandoor are to die-for. Alfredo pasta are surely not be missed - creamy cheesy and thick consistency. To kill the waiting time, they have given quiz on each table which can be solved.Interiors are brightly lighted and place is always overcrowded. The staff is cordial and serve is filling enough to fill up your tummies.

Gujjus' Favorite

Its been around for a long long time and very popular amongst the Gujju & Jain people in South Mumbai. Weekends and festival days, its packed to the brim. Such the crazy fans of this eatery located right on Girgoan Chowpatty.

The all time favorite: Nachos and Big Bang Nachos, yummy cheesy sauce and other fillings make it a wonderful treat for one and all. Other lip-smacking starters - Onion rings, jalapeno poppers, cheese corn balls.

Love the Enchiladas (half & half) are the best with beans & mushroms, tasty tangy tomato sauce. It's a treat.

Pizzas: Bombay Delight & Caprese (have always ordered these)

And finally the famous NY Chana Masala & Chana Bhatura.

Average food

Mumbaikars will always recommend this place. They have their favourite dishes and will want you to try them too. Though this was not my first visit to Mumbai, yet I had never been to this restaurant. So this time I decided to try explore mumbai food. I made two visits at the New Yorker, so you can guess, its an happening place, facing the beautiful beach, Chowpatty.
My first order with a friend of mine included:-
1. Chilly Paneer Pizza
2. Cheese Balls and
3. Two Lemonade (sweet n salty)

Rating :-
Chilly Paneer Pizza - Very average. 2/5. I was not able to find chilly at all. It was all Paneer and few vegetables.
Cheese Balls - 3/5. Good. Balls filled with corn and cheese and oregano.
Lemonade - 2/5. Since we specially asked for sweet n salty, it was mostly just sweet.

My second visit was with few relatives and the order included:-
1. Nachos
2. A drink with soda and ice cream (cant recall the proper name)
3. Onion rings.

Nachos - They said its their signature dish and if you havent had New Yorkers Nachos, you havent really enjoyed the place. However, for me these Nachos were really very heavy. All they had done was poured a heavy dose of melted cheese with few pieces of capsicum on the top. It became too greasy and bland. It became difficult for me to gulp it down my throat. 1/5.

The soda drink with ice cream - Was ordered for the kids. I did take a sip and it reminded me of the childhood days when we used to mix ice cream in soda to make a soda pop. So for me, it brought back memories of those days.

Onion rings- 2.5/5. Not very good. Deep fried and topped with some chaat masala. Did not find it very interesting.

The staff is a little over friendly. Good and decent dining space. And they put paper mats on the tables that have crossword puzzles , riddles and mathematic quizes. So you can charge up your brain cells when waiting for your order to be served. The walls are well decorated with musicians of Beatles etc. And the entrance has engraving of the Statue of Liberty.

Disgusting

The food is disgusting. Went in with high expectations of good food especially (Italian). The lasagne was terrible below par. The onion rings bland . The only thing which was at par was the service.
HIGHLY OVERRATED .

Italian Food Lovers!

This place is exactly opposite Girgaon Chowpatty. I have been there many times, whenever I go to the beach. This place is calm, the staff is really helpful and fast. The food here is excellent and stands up to your expectations. If you go here, you have to try "The Original New Yorker Nachos!". It is simply delicious dish. Very Cheesy! The pizzas are really good. I tried "Indian Spicy Pizza", proper Indian taste and well baked. Overall, I would rate it as 4/5.

Consistently Excellent Food!

I have been visiting this place for close to 5 years now. The first thing that come to my mind is its consistency in delivering mouth watering dishes every single time. It just makes you confident enough to take your friends every time. Nachos, Pizza, Pasta, Shakes... all in all every single item of their menu is finger-licking good. Their cheese sauce definitely is unique and excellent. never ever have i been disappointed with anything i order and that speaks volumes about its quality. A definite must go!

Yum! Always on My "To-Eat" list visiting Mumbai!

As a Native New Yorker (pun intended), this place is nowhere near anything that is served in NYC. If you want NYC veg food, think more like NY Style Pizzas & Bagels. But besides that technical detail, I LOVE THIS PLACE. I have been visiting New Yorker almost every trip to Mumbai during my childhood. Now that I live in this city, it's a treat to still have the cheese nachos, the bean & cheese enchiladas because they have not changed the recipe nor the taste. The sizzling brownie and lime ice are the highlights as well.

Annoyed

good food, good ambiance, good service....but what made me give one star to this place is cricket match kept on TV ...becoz of this live matches kept on TV for customers a gang of crowd gathers outside restaurant to watch match which spoils your mood for food, ambiance and service....either keep curtains or don't keep matches on TV or change TV position or remove TV its seriously annoying.....complained to manager but did not pay any heed to it....previously cream center had TV they removed it now crowd don't gather for TV purpose plus even staff works efficiently inspite of watching tv

Drop by for starters if passing by...

Had always longed to to visit New Yorker especially every time i passed the Matunga branch, finally got a chance to check out this retso at chowpatty on a midday lunch with colleagues en route to a meeting, Ambiance and Service were as expected, Good.

Now coming to the main part food:
Nachos- were one of the best i had, thanks to the decent amount of yummy cheese sauce poured over it. Must Try.
Onion Rings- i fail to understand how many restos are not able to make this dish crispy, well New Yorker nailed it. Must Try.
Spaghetti Arrabiata- Supposed to be very simple dish to prepare, but regretted ordering one here, was very sweet plus with xtra cheese. Those who have tasted anything near to authentic arrabiata please avoid it here.
Mexican Bean and Cheese- well this was ordered by my colleague, the taste was preety much ok nothing exceptional.
Lastly Brownie which very few people mess up. so was good. Try if your having main course here or just enjoy another round of Nachos or Onion Rings.

The points I've given are mainly for Nachos(ordered twice) and Onion Rings and for the sizzling Brownie. If you pass by this resto drop in for a bite of these 2 dishes only.

Just like Cream Center

I hear that they belong to the same chain. The menu and taste at both the places is very similar, at least of all the dishes that I have tasted. I have had Nachos, Onion Rings, American Corn Balls, Half-and-half enchiladas and 2-3 types of sizzlers and frankly this is one place I would recommend to anyone for having a good time with friends/family and have the intestines smothered with cheese. Children especially love to have the pizza here though I don't much care for it, because I live with a Pizza chef at home :)

Excelllent Indianised Mexican Food

I've been going to this place for over 10 years and have never been disappointed with the food. The quality of the food has always been excellent. I love the nachos and the burrito.
The only problem I have with the place is that its too congested and they are always trying to get you to finish quickly even when the place has no waiting.

Overall great food, excellent quality and will always eat here

Awesome onion rings

I am not too fond of the food they serve but can go back anytime for the crispy onion rings. I so wish they served beer with it.

Despite the not so exciting food what works in there favor is their pricing which pulls a lot of college crowd.

bad beans in enchiladas

I ate in New Yorkers after ages - used to go there a lot when I was younger. My friend and I had gone to Peddar Rd , so thought why not go to NY for lunch. TRULY DISAPPOINTING.
We both ending up having food poisoning. a week has passed by but not yet recovered. The beans and sauce were not fresh - tasted like yesterday's left over & over sweet. I am a Gujarati but overdose of sweet in enchiladas - heavens sake. Will never go there again. No wonder they had to shut shop in Matunga.

Eateratti : Enjoyable

You are heading out to eat, extremely hungry, with stomach making all possible grinding sounds and the last thing you want is that the food lets you down? For me, in such situations I head straight to New Yorkers and it has never let me down since my bachpan ke din.

So before I start, I will try not being biased about what I write, but honestly that going to be a little hard

What do they serve.?, Italian, Mexican & Indian, however I don’t visit the Indian food department here, simply cause if you wanted to have Indian food, then please head to the next door Creame Center or Shiv Sagar. You basically come to New Yorkers to have Nachos (one of the best in the city, almost close after Oven Fresh in my list), American Corn Cheese Balls, Tachos and the sizzlers.
Now I am taking off my rose-tinted glasses and to look at the down-side, the food has the flavors and touch of the Indian Cuisines. May be that’s why it appeals to the Indian taste buds so much, so it continues to be popular from time immemorial. The Pizza and pastas departments also are strictly alright. What’s another downside is the menu is all vegetarian.

However, what I love New Yorker most is for its Sizzling brownie. Leaving New Yorkers without having one is a perpetual sin to commit, atleast in my world.

It’s a very special place as tons of related memories. Most of our post exam lunches had to compulsorily happen here. One thing I love to do here,is to race my hubby over the silly riddles that the food mat has and I don't really need to state how wins hands down!!!!

Will I go back? This question is not too applicable, as haven’t stopped going there since my school days so that’s more than a decade.

Will I recommend? Yes for sure.

Totally worth it!

New Yorker's has been around for decades now and I can't get enough of it! I remember I used to go there even when I was a kid just to have their Nachos and American Corn Cheese Balls! (I still do!)
Even though similar places like Cream Centre, Relish, Bombay Blue, etc. have opened to give competition, New Yorker's is the best!

They're known for Mexican food for Guju taste buds which makes this place totally awesome for me! But they also serve Italian and Indian. And oh yes, they made the Sizzling Brownie famous so make sure you have that when you go there!

I'd say the prices are quite worth the mouth watering food here! Totally worth it! Baoo game chhe! ?

Indianized Mexican

These guys have taken a cue from Chinese fast food stalls and Indianized all the Mexican stuff. I read rave reviews of this place but the food be it Mexican or Italian is not at all authentic. The hummus, though, is very tasty and indian food is pretty decent. Service is pretty poor - the servers just keep standing in a corner, come and put the dish on the table and disappear.

New York, New York...

So there is nothing about this place that actually screams New York, apart from the mural of the Statue of Liberty against the wall, but New Yorker gets a round of applause for a good effort at trying to recreate some otherwise hard-to-find cuisines anywhere in India. Their staple/USP seems to be Mexican, as most every table had a plate of enchiladas on them. I unfortunately was in no form ready to gobble up a plate of heavy, cheesy enchiladas, but I must say, they did look as authentic as I've seen in Bombay. The place seems to be a 50/50 mix of family outings and gossipy college students.

Our table's meal consisted of a make-it-yourself pasta dish (penne with tomato sauce and some vegetables); an amritsari channa with kulcha (something like that); spicy hummus with pita (my dish); and mexican pasta salad (waaah? when did Italy and Mexico cross paths?). The pasta, I was told, tasted a bit "desi", if you will, but was otherwise enjoyable. The channa lacked salt and flavor, but the pan-fried whole green mirchi made up for it. No idea on the pasta salad, but the hummus and pita (hard to screw up) was enjoyable.

All in all, we had a good meal here, and it wasn't too hard on the pocket (some 650 odd bucks) either. If ever in this area and you're looking for a good mix of Mexican or Sizzler/wannabe Lebanese type stuff, this is your joint.

First visit after re-opening

New Yorker has long been a staple for most people living in south bombay. although its become more of a kiddie and family hangout it still is a decent place for a bite. The taste isnt authentic but its consistent.

Rest : New Yorker
Meal : Lunch
Date : 21/12/2006
Location :Chowpatty

Experience- Terribly hungry but not in the mood for too much food, we decide to trek to the closes place possible for a quick quick lunch. The place has recently been renovated, seating has increased, the place itself looks like an impossibly high end, chic minimalist restuarant which is completely contrary to the cuisine, crowd and prices. Its also not as comfortable as it should be (not that it ever was a comfortable place)

Drink :Brownie Shake, Water

Food : The first order of things was a nachos with cheese as is their specialty. thing came out in less than 3 mins too. before the drink was there. talk about anticipation. Then we ordered half a portion of enchiladas which weren't too bad, they tasted like they used to. the taste hasn't changed so far though the decor has.
At last we ordered the Lebanese sizzler (they need more options for this thing) it was a bit of a mish mash, veggies, rice, chick peas topped with baba ganoush, hummus, some felafil, hummus and Lebanese sauce (watever THAT is) It took a while to come, which i reckon means they weren't anticipating this.
The choc brownie shake, was nice and big, had enougbh brownies, but wasn't cold enough and was too heavy on the hersheys.

Rating : Food 7/10, Service 7/10

Damage : 700 ($17)

superb Mexican Food!!!

One of the first places in Mumbai to serve Mexican food. You can try nachos with or without baked beans and have an ice cream soda along. Tacos and Enchiladas are awesome. Nice place to take the whole gang of friends for a birthday party. Not that great for a couple cos the place can get really noisy at times. Plus long waiting queues at peak time i.e between 8:00 to 10:00 p.m can spoil the party.
