Shop No 31 & 32, Link Plaza, MHADA Complex, Next to Punjab & Maharashtra Bank, Oshiwara, Andheri (W), Mumbai

Average

take-away was very average

The take-away at Pratap's, which normally rocks for sit-in dining, was very disappointing. The flavour receded back to the same old creamy, uninteresting Mughlai-type dishes, overladen with butter, cream and not enough spices. That home-style cooking we are all so fond of and expect of Pratap's was totally missing. I am starting to wonder if the take-away kitchen is separate to relieve stress on the dine-in dinners.

Lesson learned: do not order Pratap's for take-away. Strictly a dine-in place.

Crystal Plaza, New Link Road, Opp. Infiniti Mall, Andheri (W), Mumbai

Excellent

fantastico!

The gelato here really rocks. Out of all the gelato I've tried at the host of competitors, this one is the best. It has that gelato thickness and rubberiness to it that ice cream just can not give you. My favourite here by far is the strawberry shortcake. Alphonso mangoes are in season, so that is a featured flavour (for now). Great dessert stop-over if you are dining in that popular Andheri Link Rd. area.

The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Apollo Bunder, Colaba, Mumbai

Good

fairly authentic, amazing ambiance

Was here recently for a work-related dinner and was blown away by the authentic Chinese ambiance of the restaurant. Everything from the ornate doorway to the seating, it screams Chinese.

I started with an order of scallop dim sum and found the scallops to be a bit on the chewy side (perhaps a little overcooked), although the entire package was quite tasty. Ordered a Schezuan mushroom dish with some vegetable fried rice for dinner and they were the perfect compliment to each other.

All in all, the service is fantastic, the ambiance excellent, the food is great. Being the Taj, it is a little heftier on the wallet than a local hole-in-the-wall, but if you are looking for premium Chinese, this is the way to go.

Taj Lands End, Bandstand, Bandra (W), Mumbai

Good

breakfast buffet for business mtgs

Serves well as a good place to hold morning business meetings over breakfast buffet. Line starts out usually with South Indian breakfast (idli, sambhar, meddu vada, etc.), moves to oatmeal, donuts, baked beans, deli meats, etc. On the other side, ask the chefs to prepare omelettes for you, even egg white omelettes. Fresh juice counter doesn't taste too fresh, but the cereal bar is good.

All in all, a pleasant breakfast experience, but very heavily trafficked by the investment banker type of dudes.

Good

bar scene is fun...

Never had the food here, but I can vouch for the bar scene - always a cheery gang of folks that are just out to have a good time. Good music (usually) and you can always ask the DJ to not play Himesh Reshamiya, since he is single-handedly destroying music as we know it.

Nice place in the burbs to settle in for a fun night.
